Vargason Olympics

Stories by Alan Vargason

With a rock as our shot-put and a pail and a rope as our hammer we were all ready to set some world records. We started with the shot-put and after a few practice tries were ready for the real throws.

Mostly Roger, Rick and I participated, so we started with the youngest Rick then Roger then myself. It was close between Roger and myself so we had a final toss to see who would win and I forgot if it was me or brother Roger but we were having a lot of fun no matter what.

We took a break and while we got the hammer ready (tying the rope to the bucket) we then took some practice throws, that's when things got bad. I wound up to throw it when I started getting dizzy and I let the rope go before seeing where it was headed.  Just as I let go I saw Roger was standing in the path of the bucket.

Eight stitches later we decided not to play that game again.
